The intention behind the making of this cart was essentially a crash course on wood & metal working. Through the process, I made a point to incorporate a vast array of machinery and techniques into it’s construction to learn their functions and become comfortable with the process. The cart itself is to be my mobile workstation, so both the process and the final result hold themes of utility as I continue to grow as a 3D designer and fabricator.

The skateboard deck was shaved out of a block of selvedge wood, planed and sanded into a eggy, mini fish shape inspired by an old South Shore surfboard template. The graphic was screenprinted on the back.
The shelf was cut from the scrap of the same piece of wood.

The catalyst of the thesis was born out of this boat bench. I needed a bench seat that fit the specific shape of the curved shell of my boat, and with only selvedge siding at my disposal, had to cut, join, plane and do a bunch of other unexpected stuff to turn a thin 20 foot plank into a comfortable seat. I liked making something that I would actually use, and decided to keep going with this concept as a guide for the rest of the project.
The table I found in shambles on the side of the road, did a full re-sanding and stain.
